Pioneering Sustainable Lighting Solutions
Luceco’s customers are increasingly approaching us with their own sustainability goals, including net zero carbon and zero energy building targets. By conducting a lighting audit, Luceco can make recommendations for a new design of fixtures and controls that reduce energy consumption whilst improving the quality of life for the people who live and work in them.
LED lights typically produce useful light at least 15 times longer and consume up to 80% less energy than their conventional counterparts. The longer life of LEDs produces savings throughout the product life cycle. This includes savings on materials, and installation costs (as systems will run for 10 years or more) and maintenance and replacement costs. This makes them the go-to option for companies targeting net zero.
On the 28th of October 2021, the SBTi launched the first-ever science-based Net-Zero Standard. This will combat the current inconsistencies that surround net-zero targets, and allow companies to decarbonize at the pace and scale required to align with the goals of the Paris Agreement and keep 1.5C in reach. It is a partnership between CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, World Resources Institute (WRI) and the World Wide Fund for Nature(WWF).
Our Targets
Luceco plc commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 46.2% by FY2031 from a FY2021 base year.*
Luceco plc also commits to reduce absolute scope 3 GHG emissions from use of sold products 27.5% within the same timeframe.
*The target boundary includes land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks
What's Science Based Target initiative (SBTi)
The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) aims to mobilise companies to take action on climate change by setting science-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction targets. For the LED lighting industry, SBTi provides guidance on setting targets in line with limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. This involves reducing emissions across the entire value chain of LED lighting products, including manufacturing, transportation, use, and end-of-life disposal.
By setting science-based targets, companies can not only contribute to global efforts to combat climate change but also benefit from increased efficiency, reduced costs, and improved brand reputation. SBTi provides a framework for companies to develop and validate their targets, and its guidelines are endorsed by leading sustainability organisations, including the United Nations Global Compact, the World Wildlife Fund, and the Carbon Trust. Many leading LED lighting manufacturers and companies have already committed to science-based targets, driving progress towards a more sustainable future.
Lead the way to a zero-carbon economy, boost innovation and drive sustainable growth by setting ambitious, science-based emissions reduction targets. Science-based targets provide companies with a clearly-defined path to reduce emissions in line with the Paris Agreement goals. More than 4,000 businesses around the world are already working with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
"The Net-Zero Standard gives companies a clear blueprint on how to bring their net-zero plans in line with the science, which is non-negotiable in this decisive decade for climate action. Because we are running out of time." - Johan Rockström - Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) and Professor in Earth System Science at the University of Potsdam
